Smalltimore Homes Veterans Week Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Veterans Event and Micro-shelter Demonstration Wednesday, November 11, 2020 4 pm outside St. John’s Historic Chapel Smalltimore Homes is an affordable housing nonprofit that believes that housing is health and that everyone deserves shelter. During Smalltimore Homes' 3rd Annual Veterans Day Build, we will gather outside of the St. John’s Lutheran Historic Chapel and the bell will ring 11 times. The speaker will be veteran Sue Currence, who served as a nurse in the Vietnam War. LaQuida Chancey, a tiny home developer and Founder of Smalltimore Homes, will then demonstrate a micro-shelter prototype design and how it can offer safety and protection for those veterans and other neighbors experiencing homelessness in this vulnerable season of winter and COVID. You will have a chance to see this micro-shelter up close. You can also participate in our Live Social Media coverage of this event (@SmalltimoreHomes). Each micro-shelter costs $2200 including tool rental and materials. Our goal is to raise $15,000 for at least 4 micro-shelter replacements for tent encampments during COVID-19 & Winter 2020.

Register through www.SmalltimoreHomes.org -> Events. Save The Date: 7 pm Saturday, November 14th - 7 am November 15th There will be a 12-hour Lockout Tent village night on the St. John’s Lutheran Church campus to raise awareness on homelessness. All ages are invited to register for this event as family or as individuals. If you don’t have a tent, we will be collecting boxes for use as shelter. Even for only 12 hours, it is a powerful way to generate understanding of the challenges for those experiencing homelessness. A sub-zero thermal suit will also be on display and is a great gift to purchase for someone experiencing homelessness. Details on our events page.  Help St. John's with their annual Mitten Tree Tubs outdoors this year to collect mittens, hats, scarves, coats, and hoodies for all ages and shared through Amazing Grace Lutheran Church. The tubs will be along the wooden ramp on the back of the main building for drop off any day of the week. Together, let's end homelessness.  *To learn more about Smalltimore Homes click here Visit our Youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEUnNB5tQwI&t=1s *To sponsor a micro shelter and build day - Visit www.SmalltimoreHomes.org ->

We are on a mission to collect 5,000 names in Support of our Micro-Shelter Villages in response to COVID19. People who are unhoused cannot shelter in place, are vulnerable and are at risk of contracting and spreading the disease. Please help us to reach our goal of 5,000 supportive names by Veteran's Day 2020 (Wednesday, November 11th)!

This form is also for anyone interested in affordable housing solutions, organizations/volunteers, or anyone that may want to stay involved for future events.
